Riverhead Raceway 1972
This was my only visit to this track, and I don't recall much about who was who. At the time there were three speedways
runniing on Long Island: Freeport, which had its own unique set of rules, Islip, which was NASCAR sanctioned, and Riverhead.
Riverhead and Islip both ran Saturday nights, and Riverhead seemed to draw a slightly more rustic set of race cars.
Note many drivers in T-shirts, and the figure 8 and bomber cars still had glass in them!
By 1972 those things were pretty unusual.
Now Riverhead is the last circle track on Long Island, a first class quarter mile paved track
running NASCAR modifieds plus other divisions on Saturday nights
