Bridgeport Speedway
In 1972 Leon Manchester got hold of the leftover grandstands, guardrail and other salvage from the closed Langhorne Speedway and built a 5/8 mile clay oval in Bridgeport NJ, southeast of Philadelphia. The track opened in late October of that year. The event pictured below was a sprint car/modified doubleheader in early November 1972. Mr Manchester was out of business the next year. The track struggled along for years with many different promotors but never realized its potential. Modifued owner Jay James took over the track in 2004 and has been making long overdue improvements.
